The Creative Process

Any wedding or commitment ceremony should be deeply rooted in YOUR STORY. As a Celebrant, I will guide you to the “heart” of your unique story of love.

Through a collaborative process of consulting, conversations, your questions, and my learning about your unique story of love, I will create a ceremony essay for you to review.

After we reach the heart of your story of love together, we then discuss other elements of your ceremony, plus your hopes and desires: readings, music, and any rituals and customs you wish to include (from your own tradition or from others). The ceremony essay will be guided by compelling questions, like the ones listed below and on the right.

Again, this process is open and collaborative! I work in partnership with you to answer all your questions so that your special day truly reflects your own authentic story of love. Through this collaboration, I will revise your essay and ceremony until it is just right! Your satisfaction is paramount!

Some possible questions for your “Story of Love Essay”

  • What feelings to you want to evoke with your ceremony as a whole?

  • What makes your story of love unique?
  • What was meeting and falling in love like for you?
  • What are your shared (or differing!) guiding philosophies, spiritual ideals, or curiosities as individuals or as a couple?
  • Are there stories from your “journey” of love that have shaped your experience?

Wedding and Commitment Vows

Wedding and commitment vows are the high point of a ceremony.  Some couples choose to write their own vows, which can be very powerful; delivered directly to each other, in the words of the bride and groom, without any participation by the officiant.  However, there are many beautiful vows from which a couple can select, of both secular and religious varieties. Here are a few sample wedding vows (PDF) to get your creative juices flowing.

Keepsakes for your special day

With every ceremony I create and officiate for you, you will receive a custom, hand-made “Keepsake Ceremony” copy from me. I tailor make these to reflect the feeling and meaning of your very special day. My hope is that whenever you look at your special “Keepsake” that you will remember your ceremony with fondness. I will also provide you with a digital version so that you may send it along to those who may have not been able to attend your ceremony.

Below are some examples of the keepsakes I create. Click on each image for a larger view.

Let’s be in touch!

I would be happy to schedule a complimentary meeting to discuss your vision of YOUR unity ceremony. Our initial conversation helps me get to know you and for you to get to know me, focusing on the big picture of your love story and preferences for the ceremony.  Feel free to contact me to schedule a meeting!
